The event was attended by Azerbaijani para-taekwondo athlete Sabir Zeynalov, along with members of the university’s academic and administrative staff, as well as students.
The program commenced with a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, followed by the performance of the National Anthem.
The opening speech was delivered by the Vice-Rector for International Relations of the university, Associate Professor Sevda Rzayeva. In her address, Dr. Rzayeva emphasized that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities reflects a commitment to building a world where everyone enjoys equal rights. She highlighted the significance of the day as an important opportunity to enhance the lives of persons with disabilities—who are an integral part of society—by supporting their achievements and helping to unlock their full potential.
In her speech, the Vice-Rector addressed the theme of "Reducing Inequality" (SDG 10), one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. She noted that this goal represents a global commitment to safeguarding the rights of persons with disabilities and ensuring their full access to education, employment, and social opportunities. He further emphasized that reducing inequality is a fundamental principle in the creation of a more inclusive and equitable society—not only for persons with disabilities, but for all members of the community.
Dr. Rzayeva expressed her pride in the participation of the event's special guest, para-taekwondo athlete S. Zeynalov, who represents the country with distinction at the international level. She highlighted that his achievements in sports and his unwavering determination serve as a source of inspiration for all. Concluding her remarks, S. Rzayeva underscored the importance of promoting inclusiveness and equality not only rhetorically, but also through concrete and practical measures.

They addressed key issues concerning the integration of persons with disabilities into society and the protection of their rights.
Speaking at the event, S. Zeynalov expressed his sincere gratitude to the leadership of BAAU and the event organizers for their invitation. He emphasized the importance of fostering inclusion within society and raising public awareness about the achievements of individuals with disabilities. Zeynalov noted that such initiatives contribute significantly to a deeper understanding of the capabilities and potential of socially vulnerable groups.
He further stated that disability should not be viewed as a barrier or a cause for isolation. On the contrary, with determination and perseverance, it is possible to attain substantial accomplishments. Drawing from his personal experience, Zeynalov shared his own journey and success story, serving as an inspiring example for the audience. He concluded by underlining the need for sustained attention and support for vulnerable part of the population and extended his best wishes to students in their educational pursuits and future professional endeavors.

This was followed by interactive discussions, during which students exchanged views on the measures that can be undertaken to promote the development of an inclusive society.
