BAAU hosts event on coverage of 20 January events in Arab media

On January 17, BAAU hosted an event dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of January 20 events. The event was organized by BAAU's Arabic Studies Center under the title "January 20 events in Arabic-language media".

BAAU vice-rector for International Relations  Sayavush Gasimov spoke about the causes of the January 20 tragedy, and noted details on the media coverage of the event.

He said that at the time of the January 20 tragedy, which brought terror and tragedy to the people of Azerbaijan, radio stations and the press of many countries reported on this event and condemned its organizers and executors. Arab countries friendly to Azerbaijan have always supported Azerbaijan in the direction of conveying the true voice of our country to the world on that eve and after that.

Head of AzerTAC's "Information in Arabic" department, Shikhali Aliyev, delivered a wide-ranging report on the coverage of the events of January 20 in the Arab media. He said that there are currently more than 420 million Arabic-speaking audiences that need to be provided with objective information. Azerbaijani journalists, diplomatic missions and intellectuals are currently trying to fulfill this task properly. Historical, religious and geographical ties have made the Arab world close to Azerbaijan, and they defend the rightful position of our country in the information war with Armenians. 

Then the Executive Director of BAAU Center for Arabic Studies Mutallim Rahimov, Scientific Director Ulviyya Huseynova spoke about the coverage of the 20 January events in the Arab media and the impressions it caused in the Arab public.

The students who participated in the event highlighted some information published in the Arab media about January 20.
