On February 4, 2025, a delegation led by Abdullah Al Washmi, General Director of the King Salman International Academy of the Arabic Language, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, visited Baku Eurasian University (BAAU) as part of an official visit to Azerbaijan.
A meeting was held between the leadership of Baku Eurasian University (BAAU) and the visiting delegation. During the meeting, the achievements of the Center for Arabic Studies at the university and potential opportunities for future collaboration were discussed.
In his speech, BAAU Rector, Associate Professor Sayavush Gasimov, stated that the first stage of the project, established under the agreement signed in 2019, had been successfully completed, and the second stage was launched in 2022. He emphasized that the Center's activities extend beyond BAAU, encompassing a wide range of areas, and provided an overview of the efforts made in teaching and promoting the Arabic language.
In his speech, Abdullah Al Washmi emphasized the significant role of the King Salman International Academy of the Arabic Language in promoting and advancing the study of the Arabic language worldwide. He highlighted the particular importance of the Center for Arabic Studies established in Azerbaijan, noting that it is the first branch of the Academy globally. Al Washmi further acknowledged that the center’s activities have made a substantial contribution to the dissemination of the Arabic language and culture.
Subsequently, Ulviyya Huseynova, the head of the BAAU Center for Arabic Studies, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the center's activities. The presentation provided detailed information on the events, seminars, student exchange and scholarship programs, Arabic language training, and other initiatives undertaken by the center since its establishment.
In her speech, Associate Professor U. Huseynova emphasized that the Center for Arabic Studies plays a crucial role not only in education but also in promoting Arabic culture and literature in Azerbaijan. She noted that the events and projects held to date have created new opportunities for young people interested in the Arabic language.
The head of the center highlighted that specialized Arabic language courses tailored to the fields of diplomacy, law, economics, and tourism will be offered, and student and faculty exchange programs will be expanded as part of international cooperation. She also stated that more accessible opportunities for learning Arabic will be created through the development of online courses and multimedia materials. Additionally, U. Huseynova emphasized that cultural events and festivals will be organized to promote Arabic culture more broadly in Azerbaijan. She further mentioned that the publication of scientific research on the Arabic language in international journals will be supported. The center will also launch new initiatives to strengthen collaboration with scientific and educational institutions in Arab countries.
Following the presentation, the delegation and the university administration visited an art exhibition showcasing paintings of Azerbaijani intellectuals and monuments. The exhibition garnered significant interest from the participants.
At the end of the event, an agreement was made to continue the activities of the BAAU Center for Arabic Studies and to sign a new agreement outlining additional areas of cooperation.
