The first online seminar on "Geoeconomics and Geopolitics of the Internet" was organized by the Economic Research Center of Baku Eurasian University (BAAU). Conducted via the ZOOM platform, the seminar was attended by the university's academic and administrative staff, as well as students and master's degree candidates.
The seminar was opened with an introductory speech by Assoc.Prof. Sevda Rzayeva, Vice-Rector for International Relations at BAAU, who welcomed the participants and emphasized the significance of the seminar. Following her address, the floor was given to Prof. Dr. Cem Işıg, Head of the BAAU Economic Research Center and Professor at Anadolu University. He provided the participants with an overview of the mission of the Center and its planned activities.
Prof. Dr. Cem Işıg emphasized that, although the Center has been operational for only about two months, it is actively working to strengthen both national and international cooperation and expand the application of innovative approaches in economic research. He also highlighted several significant achievements that have already been realized.
Prof. Dr. Cem Işıg moderated the seminar, while Prof. Dr. Tunç Özelli, a professor at the New York Institute of Technology, delivered a lecture. The lecture provided a detailed analysis of the critical role the Internet plays in global economic and political relations. It highlighted the impact of the Internet on transnational trade, information flows, and financial systems, as well as the geopolitical competition in these areas. Both theoretical and practical approaches to the geoeconomics of the Internet were presented, with compelling examples demonstrating how information technologies shape the economic and political interests of various countries.
The seminar concluded with a session addressing participants' questions of interest and engaging in discussions on the topic.
It is important to note that, in line with the activities of the Economic Research Center, a series of seminars and master classes will continue.
