A poetry competition was held among students of higher education institutions operating in our republic under the organization of the "Arabic Studies Center" jointly established by Baku Eurasian University and the International Center for the Service of the Arabic Language named after King Abdulla bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia. Students specializing in Arabic language from Baku Eurasian University, Azerbaijan University of Languages, Baku State University and Azerbaijan Theological University joined the competition.
Baku Eurasian University vice-rector for international relations Sayavush Gasimov informed about the work done by the "Arab Studies Center" during the past four years. He said that during the past period, the Center organized courses on teaching Arabic language to more than 400 students. Stating that the center has become a platform for Arabic specialists in our country, the vice-rector of BAAU said that they will continue their support for the training of Arabic-speaking personnel.
Later, the scientific head of the "Arab Studies Center", associate professor Ulviyya Huseynova gave detailed information to the participants about the conditions of the competition. U. Huseynova said that one winner will be chosen for the 1st place, and two winners for each of the 2nd and 3rd places.
After reading a verse from our holy book, the Koran, the competition started.
The contestants recited poems in Arabic in front of a pre-appointed panel of judges. Prominent Arabic scholars of our country - Salman Suleymanov, Heybat Heybatov, Ilkin Almuradov, Tofig Abdullayev and Vael Alshreef, head of the Economy and Culture Department of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Baku, were represented in the jury. 36 students were admitted to the final stage of the competition. The jury evaluated the ability of the contestants to present the poem artistically, and their ability to express it fluently in Arabic.
Hamad bin Abdullah bin Saud bin Khudeir, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Baku, also attended the event. Welcoming the participants of the competition, the ambassador spoke about the current state and development of Arabic literature.
The jury, which evaluated the participants of the competition, announced the winners at the end.
Narmina Mammadova, a student of Baku Eurasian University, was awarded the 1st place. Murad Karamov, a student of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology, and Simuzar Mammadzade, a student of the Baku State University, took the 2nd place, Sahib Ibayev and Mohammedali Akhundov, students of the Baku State University, took the 3rd place. Valuable gifts, cash prizes and certificates were presented to the winners.
